Life Update + Currently Reading and Watching

Hello everyone!

I’ve been so bad at reading recently. According to Goodreads, I’ve only read 13 books this year. And I hoped to read 50! Whoops.

Currently reading

I am currently reading Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell. I’ve been reading it for about…one month. And to be honest, I couldn’t really tell you what it’s about. That’s not the books fault, though, it’s mine. I can’t stay focused on it.

Wayward Son is the sequel to Carry On. I was really into Carry On when I read it a few years ago. There’s always that problem when you read a sequel later on where you can’t remember characters or things that happened. So, that’s kind of happening to me right now.

A great book I read this year

Considering I’ve only read 13 books this year, it hasn’t been hard to pick my favourite. I read Fingersmith by Sarah Waters a few months ago and loved it. The novel is told in three parts and is about a young woman who starts working as a maid to a wealthy gentlewoman. The story is gothic and deceptive, and features main characters who are lesbian. I really enjoyed it!

Currently watching

The television shows I am currently watching are The Good Place, South Park, Saturday Night Live, Bojack Horseman, and Dickinson.

I thought Dickinson would be the best show to discuss considering most of my readers are book lovers. The show combines Pride and Prejudice with Gossip Girl. It’s set in the 1800s, but uses current teen slang and angst that is unusual to the time period. Emily Dickinson is the focus of the show and follows her relationship with both poetry and Susan Gilbert. I don’t know much about Emily Dickinson so I don’t know if this actually happened, but in the show Susan and Emily’s brother get engaged. I’m only on episode one and I’m really enjoying the style, as modern-day language is used to make the show easier to understand. I can never get into shows or movies set before the 1900s because the language confuses and bores me. But Dickinson is really entertaining and easy to watch!

A great show I recently watched

I just have to talk about this mind-blowing documentary called Tell Me Who I Am. It’s on Netflix. This true story is insane and left me in shock for a few days. It is about twin brothers who individually share their sides of their upbringing, which are very different. One twin lost his memory when he was 18, meaning he couldn’t remember anything from his childhood. The other twin was left to tell his brother about their family and how to go about everyday life. I won’t say anything more – you need to watch it for yourself! I never would have guessed what really happened to the twins when they were younger. It’s crazy.

Life update

A few posts ago I told you that I was looking for a job. Thankfully, I found one! It is as an editor, which is exactly what I wanted. I was also looking at writing jobs, such as a digital content creator, but I’m very happy to have found one as an editor. I also wanted it to be part-time, not full-time, as I felt it would be easier to ease into the industry slowly. I also have another job as a carer for people with a disability, so I can do both jobs.

In the same post, I mentioned that my family was selling our house. We have since sold our house and bought a house! It actually happened within the same week, which was pretty cool. We are moving to a different suburb, which is a first for me because I’ve lived in the same suburb my whole life. It will be really weird to adapt to a new suburb.

Here’s the tree outside my new house, because why not? I move in a few weeks.

Thanks for reading! I hope I’ll get back into reading soon, it’s been far too long.

  1. Congratulations on the new job and house! 13 books is still a good number of books read and there is still time before the end of the year. At least that’s what I keep telling myself because I’m behind on my Goodreads challenge too.
