March Bullet Journal Set-Up

Hi everyone ❤

At the start of 2018 I really got into using a bullet journal. I watched a lot of videos on the internet and was so surprised by how easy and fun it was to create your own spreads. I bought my journal before watching any videos, so while I love how it looks, I do wish I bought one with dotted pages rather than lined pages. Aside from that, I really like how my bullet journal has turned out.

Having a bullet journal can keep track of so many aspects of your life. I thought I would only be using it for the basics, but I have since started tracking my habits, expenses, writing, reading, and studying. Because I like how my March spread turned out, I thought I would make a blog post about it, as it does include my blog’s two main interests: reading and writing.

Cover Page

I was so proud of my March cover page when I finished it. I think that the pens are what makes it look pretty. I love the red pen that I bought recently, as it is so vibrant on the page and is the perfect colour for a rose (Art Studio Aquarelle Brush). I also put in a quote on the left because I had a spare page.

In January and February, I only used one colour for the whole month and I think using two or three is much more effective. I still do like these simplistic monthly cover pages though.

Goals & TBR

I think it is nice to have some goals to set for yourself in the month so that you have something to work towards. My March TBR is of course self-explanatory, I just have the books that I would like to read in March.

Word Count Tracker

Last month I found it very motivating having a word count tracker to keep track of my writing. I am kind of second-guessing including it this month, as I am going to prioritise uni work over my writing. Hopefully I will still be able to use an hour out of my day to put to writing.

Habit Tracker

The habit tracker is my favourite part of my bullet journal. I really enjoy taking the time every night to track how my day has gone. To track my habits, I am going to use my red pen and put a little circle over the small black dot next to the habit and the day. The habits I am tracking are: reading, writing, going to the gym, waking up by 8 a.m., eating well, not spending anything, not buying food, uploading a blog post, and posting to Instagram.

Expense Tracker

I have not used an expense tracker before and I am really excited to start using it. All I will do is write down everything that I spent during the month. I’m not sure if there will be enough room, so I may have to only do purchases that are important. As there was not that much space, I drew some little roses on the bottom of the page for decoration.

March Calendar

I realised my March calendar should probably go at the start, but for this month it is in the middle of the spread. I definitely went overboard with the red and I thought that it made it look a bit too busy. The red lines should either be smaller or just eliminated altogether. The quote says, “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” This month I liked playing around with different fonts.

University Spreads

At the end of February I started my first year in my masters course at a new university. I felt daunted by the expectations at this university and really wanted to ensure I was fully prepared. I decided that using spreads in my bullet journal would greatly help organise how I prioritise studying and planning for assignments.

Classes & Timetable

On the left I have each of my classes and where they are located (don’t stalk me). Then on my timetable page I just used the colour I assigned to the subject to indicate when I have the class. This makes it easy to visualise.

Assignments & Study Log

Although it is currently blank, I am soon going to write in all of my assignments. I am going to put them in chronologically so that I can plan them effectively. I have never been the type of person who is that good at studying, but I thought I would also give study logs a go to see whether I study enough. Apparently I am supposed to do ten hours of study per subject per week, and in my Bachelors degree I never did that much. So this year I would like to at least try.

Weekly Spread (1-4)

My first weekly spread is just the first four days of March, as I like to start the week on a Monday. The following week will be seven days (5-11). I like how this spread turned out; it is very simple and pretty. My journal is filled with quotes every fifty pages or so, so luckily the quote was not in an awkward place.

And that is my bullet journal spread for March ❤

Do you keep a bullet journal?

  1. I keep a bullet journal, but it’s not nearly as pretty as yours. 🙂

I’m like you since I usually stick to one or two colors for a month. Since it’s March, I went with green for St. Patrick’s Day along with gold and copper. March is the first month I’m truly happy with after starting one in January haha. I also use a planner, too so my journal mostly keeps track of everything versus using it as a planner. 🙂

    1. That’s so sweet, but I’m sure yours is pretty too 🙂 Those sound like colours that would work really well together! Haha I feel the same way, I only started in January as well 🙂

  2. Your bullet journal spreads look so pretty! I have yet to set up my pages for March but I’m thinking of stealing your idea and using roses for my cover page! 😉 I really love using the habit tracker because it’s so much easier to hold yourself accountable for things! I’ve also been loving the expense tracker because it has ACTUALLY helped me control my spending especially when it comes to buying books 😂 I hope you’ll achieve your goals for March and read some fantastic books! ❤

    1. Thank you!! Go for it, I love the roses 🌹❤️ Me too, it’s really interesting to look at all of my habits and have a go at making them better! That’s so good that expense tracker helped, this will be the first time I use one so that’s good to hear! Thanks Jackie ☺️

  3. Oh wow! You really have a talent for that kind of thing! You’re definitely motivating me to do the same thing! My to-do lists are all over the place and I’m not being as productive as I wish lately. I also have a similar word count sheet for my WIP though, That also works for me 🙂

  4. No, I dont keep one but after reading this post I think I will start 😉 Very nice pictures. You clearly put a lot of effort in this to make this look so neat and lovely.
I was wondering how your habit tracker works – do you tick days when you have a takeaway, go to gym, eat well etc? I may do something similar but perhaps divide a page for beneficial and healthy habits and these which I dont really like.

Very interesting ideas. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  5. I have always wanted to do a bullet journal but my handwriting is so messy that it might drive me crazy but I have been using a book blogger planner/editorial planner and a review journal. I haven’t been using it as much as I should but after reading your post, I am going to take a crack at getting better organized again! I think your bullet journal looks gorgeous! Great job and great post!😍📚💙💖💜💯📌

      1. You’re welcome!❤😘 It’s pretty handy to have but a lot of people just print out the different worksheets they want for free on Pinterest or whatever and make a book blogging binder which I have seen some cool ones of those too and they are pretty cost effective and you can customize it!😄😁❤
