In May last year I created a list of ten Young Adult books that I wanted to read by the end of 2017. They were all books that I was really looking forward to reading at the time, and wanted to order them so I would remember the next YA book I wanted to read. I managed to read most of them and have reasons as to why I didn’t read the others.
1. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Status: Read
I read The Hate U Give almost immediately after I created the list in May 2017. As you probably could have guessed, I really enjoyed this book. This book was, in my opinion, the most popular book of 2017, so of course I liked it. My review.
2. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Status: Read
I read this book mid-2017 and thought it was a very entertaining read. I’m really pumped for the movie to come out! I don’t have much to say about it, other than it was a cute, quick read.
3. Geekerella by Ashley Poston
Status: Read
I would not have read this book based off of the title and description. However, I saw it recommended many times by other bloggers and decided to pick it up. I ended up loving the story and characters. My review.
4. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Status: Read
I only finished reading To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before about two weeks ago. It was surprisingly addictive! I don’t know if I’ll ever get to the sequel, but it was definitely an unexpectedly good read.
5. One of Us Is Lying by Riley Redgate
Status: Read
I found One of Us Is Lying to be very interesting. While I enjoyed it, there were a few parts to it that I thought were ridiculous. I only really read it because of the hype. My review.
6. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
Status: Read
This was the last book I read in 2017! The author’s writing is fantastic and I am glad to have found a new contemporary author. I don’t know why it took me so long to read. My review.
7. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
Status: Owned but unread
I recently received this book for Christmas and I’m really excited to read it! I don’t know how long it will take me because I have several others to read first. The main reason I decided to finally buy it was because this girl in one of my classes constantly talked about it.
8. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
Status: Read
I read When Dimple Met Rishi a few months ago and did not like it. The characters were too mean-spirited and judgemental.
9. More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
Status: Unread
I was going to read this one, but I got an eARC of They Both Die At the End and read that first. I disliked that book so much. I don’t know if I will be able to read another book by the author.
10. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
Status: Unread
I would like to try reading this one day. Just yesterday I watched Everything, Everything (2017), which is based on another book from the same author. It is a book that I did not really want to read and instead watched the movie. It would be nice to eventually read a Nicola Yoon novel, so I’ll go with this one.
I managed to read 7 of the 10 books from my 2017 Young Adult TBR! Occasionally throughout the year I would go back to this list to remind myself about what I needed to read, and it was very helpful in picking my next read! I am pretty bad with the “want to read” feature on goodreads because I always forget to add books there.
When I was writing this post I was remembering how hyped many of these books were last year. I am glad that most of them lived up to the hype.
- Have you been able to stick to your TBRs?
I think you did really well with this list!! 😀 To all the boys is really addictive as well.

Well done! I am so bad at sticking to TBRs! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed To All the Boys! The sequels are just as good if not better!

I really liked Morgan Matson’s Since You’ve Been Gone, it was such a nice summer read. I have yet to read her other novels though, I heard they are all wonderful.

I agree, I thought it was a great read. I haven’t read her other books either, I’d definitely like to though 🙂

It sucks that you didn’t enjoy Adam Silvera’s newest novel, but at least you gave his writing a go. Personally I loved The Sun is Also A Star even though Everything, Everything didn’t interest me so I hope you enjoy it too!
