Colleen Hoover is a new adult author who has written 13 books. She usually releases at least one book per year, so expect some more from her soon!
I have read six of her books and really enjoy the way she is able to keep me invested in the plot. While romance is a big part of her stories, she often includes a gripping and tragic backstory for one or more of the characters. This can include a painful death, an unexpected pregnancy, or some form of abuse. Using these original storylines is often unsuspecting for the readers, who would have been unlikely to foresee the plot twist coming.
She is currently one of the most acclaimed New Adult writers in the genre. I hope to see more books likes hers within the genre because there can be so many plotlines about people aged between 18-25.
Some of Hoover’s Novels
Here are five of her novels that I have read and thoroughly enjoyed.
*Synopses adapted from Goodreads
Confess
Determined to rebuild her shattered life, Auburn Reed walks into a Dallas art studio in search for a job. She becomes deeply attracted to the studio’s enigmatic artist, Owen Gentry. For once, Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is hiding a huge secret.
I was completely astounded by Owen’s secret and was surprised by how creative Hoover was with this plot. I really enjoyed the relationship between Auburn and Owen and especially loved reading the ‘confessions’ in the novel and seeing the artwork.
It Ends with Us
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. When she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind.
This is my favourite one of Hoover’s novels. It is a ground-breaking and beautiful read and I really loved reading it. The protagonist Lily is a florist and I loved the progression of her character, as she ages several years in the story. My review.
November 9
Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year.
The premise to November 9 has to be the most creative out of Hoover’s novels. Even though we only hear from the character’s on just one day per year, we still learn a lot about them. It was very hard to put this novel down. My review.
Ugly Love
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex.
The plot twist in this novel is incredibly heartbreaking and very difficult to read. However, the relationship between Tate and Miles is unique, although quite strained because of Miles’s past. But you’ll have to read Ugly Love to find out what it is. My review.
Maybe Someday
Sydney lives with her best friend, has a great boyfriend, and the music coming from the balcony opposite hers is fast becoming the soundtrack to her life. But when Sydney finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, the bubble bursts. The mysterious and attractive man behind the music, Ridge, gives Sydney hope that she can move on and they begin to write songs together.
Maybe Someday is light-hearted and very sweet. It is a great novel to read if you want something easy and romantic. Out of all the male love interests in Hoover’s novels, Ridge was my favourite. My review.
Hoover’s Other Novels
Here are some more novels that she has written that I will get around to reading in the near-future. Slammed, Point of Retreat and This Girl are all part of the same series, and Hopeless and Losing Hope are part of a different series. Too Late is a standalone novel.
Hoover is releasing another novel on 3 October 2017 called Without Merit. I will definitely be reading it when it comes out.

- If you have, what’s your favourite Hoover book?
